I think turmeric and sweet potato smoothie can glow in the dark the color is so vibrant. It’s the most bright smoothie I created so far and I have to say I’m very proud of my creation 🙂

With the choice of ingredients it is obvious I was going for yellow color but somehow after blending the ingredients the color intensified to the point of being almost too much to the eyes. This smoothie is seriously yellow and it tastes as good as it looks.

I was just writing about being curious what would be the results of blending an orange. If you would like to see the rather positive results check out orange and raspberry smoothie aka immune booster.  And now I got curious about sweet potato.

I have my oven running a least once a week and I always bake squash and sweet potato at the same time. It’s a great time saver during the week because I have ready components for meals including breakfast (check out this squash toast). But this time looking at the sweet potato in my fridge I wanted to blend it and see if it’s any good in a smoothie.

I thought about what would go well with sweet potato but was very unsure what the outcome would be when I opened the blender. It looked good. A quick taste and WOW. I had a winner. Sweet potato rocks in a smoothie! 🙂

Seriously the results were overwhelmingly good. Creamy, sweet, hum of turmeric in the back and slight sharpness from the orange. Very nice combination indeed.

And yes, I blended the orange again. But I just had to pair orange with sweet potato and see what happens.

I’m still using my one pound bag of turmeric to dye the whole kitchen. I don’t know why I bought a pound bag of a spice that is capable of turning everything yellow on the spot. Oh well, I like the challenge obviously. This time, some turmeric ended up on the floor and I had a moment of panic when trying to clean the mess. Cleaning session was successful. The cloth took all the damage and turned completely yellow. The floor thankfully survived intact.

Do proceed with caution when making this smoothie and although you want lovely and bright yellow smoothie you definitely don’t want yellow and bright kitchen 🙂

Turmeric and sweet potato smoothie
 
Ingredients
  • ¾ cup of cooked sweet potato
  • 1 peeled orange
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon of flaxseed (or golden linseed)
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric
  • 300 ml of filtered water
Instructions
  1. Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.
  2. If the smoothie is too thick add more water and blend again.
