Sunflower seeds are a great clean food pantry staple to have on hand. They are great in sweet and savory baking, in smoothies or sprinkled on salads.

Sunflower seeds are a great source of protein with good quality amino acids. They are also a good source of Vitamin B complex and a source of tryptophan which our body uses to make 5-HTP which can regulate stress, depression and anxiety. It’s definitely good idea to incorporate sunflower seeds into our diet.

Sunflower seeds are great in baking, both sweet and savoury. Think banana bread or multi grain rolls with sunflower seeds. They are great in smoothies, granola, energy bars, cookies.

They are great as a snack and when toasted they taste heavenly. It’s easy to toast them in a dry non stick pan, over medium heat until they are toasty, golden and smelling delicious. We usually toast sunflower seeds with pumpkin seeds and use this combo to sprinkle on omelettes, sandwiches, rice, salads. It’s a really tasty way to eat more of the good stuff.

Sunflower seeds will keep for few months, in closed package, in dry and cool place. It’s a great pantry staple. It’s best to buy them in larger packages as it’s cheaper this way and you don’t have to think about buying them for a while.
