Prunes are dehydrated plums and when they are dry they are sweet, gooey and absolutely delicious. I think they are a really overlooked dried fruit. Prunes are really tasty, good source of Potassium, Vitamin A and Calcium. Prunes also have a good amount of fiber.
Because of that fiber and natural sugar in plums called sorbitol which have laxative properties when eating prunes you may experience digestive issues. It’s very beneficial to add them to your diet, just don’t overeat them. Since everyone is different have a look how you feel after eating prunes and regulate daily intake based upon your digestive response.
Prunes can be enjoyed as a snack, used in baked goods, porridge, granola bars, energy balls.
We found quite a lot of manufacturers add oil or even sugar to dried prunes so avoid those and when buying prunes make sure you buy just prunes.
Prunes are usually pitted but do look on the ingredient list as we found prunes with stone in as well.
