Peanut butter power smoothie

Peanut butter power smoothie - peanut butter, oats, flaxseeds, cocoa powder and fruit. Great combo for a quick and healthy breakfast.

Do you wake up hungry? It varies for me. There are mornings when food is the last thing on my mind when I wake up, and on some mornings, it’s the first thing I think about. Really the first thing. I usually have a glass of water  first, so that gives my stomach something to do and me few minutes to get ready. But on the hungry mornings glass of water will not keep my stomach busy for long. Well to be honest glass of water is usually received with a kinda – are you kidding me, where is food? – response. So I try to ignore my stomach for few minutes and get on with my morning routine.

Hungry mornings are more difficult when I’m pressed for time. I don’t spend much time on making breakfast anyway. Somehow time in the mornings runs way faster than during the rest of the day. Did you notice that? Time speeds up like crazy and every minute somehow is very precious. Anyway, on hungry mornings I think smoothies or packed breakfast are an answer. You can be out of the door quickly and what’s most important, you can eat your breakfast. Missing on your breakfast is a big mistake in my book. It leaves me first of all, hungry. Overall more stressed and anxious. My whole system is out of synch and this carries on for the rest of the day. The fact of eating the next meal does not make it all better. Sure it improves things, but cannot cancel the stress I put my body through because of skipping breakfast. Which means the most important part of my morning routine is my breakfast. No excuses.

This is how this smoothie came to life. Chuck nutritious food into a blender and you have the breakfast you need. I was going for drinkable but dense breakfast that will not leave me hungry within an hour. I like adding oats to my smoothies to boost them. Peanut butter is another ingredient that works very well. You want the fat, the carbs and protein in your diet. And this smoothie has it all. And it will hit the taste spot as well. Bananas and peanut butter are best friends anyway. The other ingredients are just boosting that friendship and make everyone get along nicely.
