This week’s theme is immune boosting smoothies that are not only a healthy breakfast loaded with goodness but have the extra factor of being beneficial for your immune system.

Let me introduce you to ginger and pear smoothie.

It’s very green, fresh, sweet, but not overwhelmingly. And it has ginger humming in the background adding an extra layer of flavour.

I thought about changing things up a bit and do a more fruit and veg smoothie rather than focusing mainly on fruit. And I wanted to add ginger to the mix.

I will be posting info about ginger and benefits in a separate article which is coming shortly but let me tell you, ginger is definitely not only good for curries or chinese.  

Ginger helps with digestion, lowers blood sugar. It is also anti-inflammatory and may help with lowering cholesterol levels. Very powerful little root.

I was never a fan of ginger in a form of a powder but fresh ginger is another thing. It’s so flavourful, spicy and warm at the same time and slightly sweet. Very intriguing spice. As it turned out, it blends very well with fruit and veg to form a great smoothie.

This smoothie is very green as it has loads of spinach and cucumber. Yes, I added a cucumber to the smoothie. And you know what? It really works. I don’t peel the cucumber and that lovely green skin definitely adds to the whole color theme of this ginger and pear smoothie. As the name suggests I added ginger and pear to the mix. For extra sweetness, there is a banana in the mix and for protein and fiber kick I added golden linseed.

I really like how this smoothie turned out. The first impression after tasting ginger and pear smoothie is – fresh. It’s light and vibrant (both in color and flavour). It’s very satisfying and since it’s not very sweet it’s a nice option if you feel like something nice and quick but not too sweet.

Ginger and pear smoothie
 
Ingredients
  • 1 packed cup of spinach
  • 1 pear
  • 1 banana
  • ¾ cup of cucumber
  • thumb sized piece of ginger - peeled
  • 1 tablespoon of golden linseed
  • 200 ml of filtered water
Instructions
  1. Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.
